As many people know Central just performed Legally Blonde as the spring musical! So, now that we are done with performances for this school year I interviewed some of the Legally Blonde cast and asked them questions about Legally Blonde and previous performances.
How do you think you’ve grown as a performer during this show?
Brenna Crowther who plays Paulette says, “I feel like I’ve gained a lot of confidence and I have been able to get outside my comfort zone and push myself to learn and grow as a singer, dancer, and actor.”
Fiona Harriman who plays Vivienne thinks that her growth has “gotten a lot better at portraying characters that are different from me in a believable way.”
Miyanna Pittman’s most notable roles in this show were Kate and Chutney but she also played many other ensemble roles. She says that “This show has definitely stretched my acting abilities, because I've had to play such a wide variety of characters in the span of a two-hour show. It's also required a lot of discipline, especially once we started practicing with costumes, and I've definitely grown in that way. It's also taught me a lot about my voice and given me a realistic perspective on my capabilities.
Fisher Boisvert who plays Kyle said, “this is my first character with lines, so it helps me speak louder and project.”
Lastly Jeremy Hatch who played Emmett Forest says that he’s “been working on developing my facial expressions to be bigger and more communicative to the audience, and this character offered me a fun opportunity to do so.”
What’s your favorite memory from this performance?
Brittany Komes who plays the wonderful Elle Woods said that performing for parents and families was her favorite memory.
Brenna says, “I’ve loved seeing everything come together and watching the hard work everyone has been putting in, paying off. I’ve also just loved being back on stage performing with some truly amazing people.”
Fiona’s favorite memory was “performing for the first time with the whole cast and realizing how far we had all come.”
Miyanna loved “the first and last scene of opening night. The thrill as the curtains rose on the Delta Nu house and the relief as we took our first bows felt so good-I live for the audience.”
Jeremy said, “Opening night! The energy was great all around, and it felt good to just perform for an audience again after so long. Opening nights are always really special.”
What’s your favorite scene/song in Legally Blonde?
Brittany’s favorites were “either So Much Better or Chip on my Shoulder because they have some of the best character development, and the catchiest melodies. Brenna’s favorite was Ireland. Fiona’s favorite song was Gay or European because it was “such a fun and catchy song”. Miyanna’s favorites were Omigod You Guys, Positive, Bend and Snap, or the Chutney scene. Fisher’s favorite song was Legally Blonde because of how great Brittany and Jeremy were in it and Jeremy said his favorite was “the 'Legally Blonde' sequence! That song is my favorite in the soundtrack, and the scene has a refreshing amount of depth, so it really stands out compared to the rest of the show.”
What’s your favorite musical in general and then what’s your favorite musical you’ve ever been in?
Brittany, Brenna, Fiona, Miyanna, Fisher, and Jeremy’s favorite musical they’ve ever been in has been Legally Blonde! Though Miyanna’s performance in Acts: A City Rising was a tie for her. Brittany’s favorite musical in general is Phantom of the Opera ,Brenna’s favorite musical is Les Miserables, Fiona’s is A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, Miyanna’s is Newsies and Jeremy’s favorite musical is La La Land.
What character in this show do you relate to the most and why?
Both Brittany and Fiona said that Elle is the character they relate to most. Brittany explains them as both being “bubbly, very social, and energetic” and Fiona said that “I often feel like I’m not taken seriously but don’t mind that much.”
Brenna said, “Honestly Paulette… She is just so funny, relatable and bubbly and I feel like I resonate with her a lot.”
Miyanna says, “I relate to Kate because she's very quirky and nerdy and a little bit awkward, but she really does care about her friends, and she can come out of her shell and be fun and romantic. Elle also holds a special place in my heart because she is so warm and positive and kind, which is definitely something I aspire to, if not always have success in.”
Jeremy’s insight was that he relates most to “the character Warner Huntington III. I, too, am simply incredibly hot, and might become a model later on if this whole education thing doesn't work out. Plus, I feel a strong affinity with the politicians and white males of the world, and am widely regarded as one of the most desirable and talented men of my generation. The future is looking bright for me, yes sir. If only I had someone serious to share it with. I mean, if I'm going to be a senator by the time I'm thirty…”

Everyone in this show has had an amazing experience performing and rehearsing for it. We send a sad farewell to the seniors in this show who all did an amazing job and put in a lot of hard work to make this show what it was. On June 4th, we have Thespian awards, an induction ceremony and a few short performances, so if you want to come and support your high school's theatre program show up to the auditorium at 7pm. Make sure to keep your eye out for next year's shows too!
