The CHS Theatre Department has finally started rehearsals for their next play of the year: The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon. It is a fast-paced and witty covering of several different Brothers Grimm fairy tales told together as one giant semi-coherent story. A new adventure for most actors and actresses at Central, for many this is their first “straight play” (A show that is not a musical). This show will be the first to be directed by the new theatre teacher, Braden Pippert.
I was lucky enough to get an interview with Mr. Pippert. It is edited for clarity.
Q: Why this show?
Mr. Pippert: It was a show that I’ve had experience with and have done in the past and I’ve been told for your first show you do what you know, and I want to be able to quickly get theater back on the stage at Central.
Q: Are there any early plans for the show that we can look forward to?
Mr. Pippert: I just want everyone to know that theater is still a thing and won’t be going away, and know that it’s weird fairy tales that we make funny so we are able to tell some darker fairytale stories.
Q: What do you say to those who maybe didn't have the chance to perform for this show? How else can they take part in or support our theater program?
Mr. Pippert: That's okay! There will be more theater opportunities this year, I’d like to do a Spring showcase consisting of some student-directed scenes, and some Shakespeare, and that’ll be in March along with a musical we’ll be doing in May.
Q: Are there any other things you’d like to say about the show?
Mr. Pippert: It's going to be funny, be prepared for audience interaction, funny props, and just a lot of fun, and I just want people to be able to come and see what all the students are going to bring to this production!
Thanks again to Mr. Pip for the interview. You can come to see performances for the show from November 29th to December 2nd. Until then, get excited and stay prepared!
