XC League Meet Preview Report

Wednesday, September 20th- The Central Cross Country team competed in the 2023 League Meet Preview- a preview meet for their Districts race.


The race took place at Cheadle Lake Park in Lebanon. The weather stayed at about 68 degrees throughout the entire meet, dropping to 64 once the teams were wrapping up.


Out of the 20 of contestants that competed with Central, over 60% PR’ed. Most notably, senior John Butler had a remarkable PR by 1 minute and ran an 18:04 5k. Junior Lily McCormick also had a 30 second PR of 26:14, showing phenomenal improvement from her freshman year. Aidan Wendring, a sophomore, ran a 16:32 5k and placed second out of Central’s male competitors.


The sole freshman varsity runner, Thomas Butler, shows continuous gains every meet. Yesterday was no exception as he came through with an 11 second PR of 20:03. Truman Swartzfager, junior and experienced cross country runner, had a 16 second PR of 17:24, finishing third out of Central’s male competitors. Finally, sophomore Ty Cirino defended his place in the top 3 of state, ultimately winning the varsity boys race- also PR’ing by just over a second in the 5k- running a 15:32, just behind the school record by 7 seconds.


Altogether, Central had an incredible number of personal records and is estimated to place second at districts on October 27th.
